This project, called exPorT, focuses on reinforcing SME’s corporate capacity for internationalisation with the goal of promoting an increase in exports and in the international visibility of Portugal for the sectors of agri-food and plastic processing for food industry.
The Agri-food Sector in Portugal is gradually emerging as one of the pillars of the Portuguese economy and has been crucial to this country’s growth strategy. This sector relies on the creation of innovative products, based on highly technological production dynamics, which allowed Portugal to keep up with the changes in consumer habits, and gain the trust of consumers in Portuguese products and their image abroad. Exports grew 18% between 2012 and 2016.
The Packaging Industry is the biggest market of the plastic sector, consuming up to 40% of all plastic produced in Europe. The plastic industry in Portugal is very competitive and displays high quality products and solutions, being a world leader in the field of “contract packaging”. Highest growth: carboys, bottles, flasks, stoppers and lids. Exports grew 5% between 2012 and 2016.
